Lee Aaron – 'Power, Soul, Rock N' Roll – Live In Germany'
(Metalville)
I’m a massive Lee Aaron fanboy; she has such an amazing vocal that I just can’t get enough. Full of power and grit if needed but always no matter the song style full of emotion and memorable melodies. I know she has a strong fanbase, but given her talents she deserves even wider love and appreciation – she’d put fellow Canadian Celine Dion to shame in a sing-off!
I’ve been lucky enough to see Aaron live and when I saw this release and clocked the track list which on a quick glance is a very similar set to what I saw and thoroughly enjoyed a few years back I was quick off the mark to get it and relive an amazing evening.
This package doesn’t disappoint and is without doubt one of the best live albums I have ever heard, this is as close as you’re going to get to actually been at an Aaron concert besides been there – the woman is flawless!
The set is extremely varied and touches on various stages of her musical career, so we get everything from hair metal to pop and the Blues to AOR!
The DVD has an interesting look to it and how it’s edited with overlays and cutaways to other shows and performances. It really does showcase what a captivating performer Aaron is even if the video is not typical of a live DVD, to be fair it may only highlight her as a performer more so.
Also, both DVD and CD are non-linear with the song order arranged specially for this release and also, I’m presuming with the recordings lifted from multiple shows in Germany. This doesn’t damage the impact of the album; it flows like it was linear. But with the DVD it’s obvious not just based on Aarons appearance on stage, with a jacket, towel or neither but with certain live visuals lifted from an outdoor festival performance. This didn’t stop me thoroughly enjoying the DVD, but I didn’t find it a little odd as most live packages are presented in a linear fashion.
Obviously the joyous AOR of ‘Powerline’ is my highlight which is only heightened by the inclusion of early Aaron classic ‘Lady of the Darkest Night’ to close the song out, just as she did when I saw her live in the flesh! Trust me, this album is an essential purchase for Aaron fans!
