Lee Aaron, still looking like a doll (high kicking and not looking a day over thirty), proved that she deserves her place in Rock history because she delivered a blinder of a show tonight. She admitted she doesn’t like doing the same album or even the same show twice and the material on offer was diverse, from the enjoyable Pop of ‘Tomboy’ and the songs like “Whatcha Do To My Body’ for which she was well known, to the Hard Rock numbers like ‘Metal Queen’, she delivered them all with style and classy sex appeal. The front rows were pretty much all male apart from me and filled with adoring fans.

However, this was by no means a woman who has traded exclusively on her looks and I was genuinely excited by her performances of her new Blues Rock numbers ‘Diamond Baby’, ‘I’m A Woman’ and a cover of Deep Purple’s ‘Mistreated’ which will apparently be on a new album. She has a major voice and in some ways, she was seriously short-changed earlier in her career when the more commercial material may not have shown off her true talent. Her version of ‘Barely Holding On’ was also immense and made one reflect on how she deserves as much respect as someone like Amy Winehouse for the sheer quality of her voice, maybe more as I can’t imagine Aaron coming on too drunk to sing. Here was a woman who really cared about her fans; she made time to talk, sign and take photos with everybody who waited behind and she had a great rapport with the front row most of which seemed to go home on cloud nine. This was a great show that deserved a much bigger venue, but she had just returned for Bang Your Head in Germany so she’s getting her fair share of large shows too. It was a privilege to see her still on top form and in such an intimate venue. If you didn’t go you missed out!
